About the event

Aubry Koehler, PhD, LMFT, will be teaching our next workshop on narrative writing. Dr. Koehler is an Assistant Professor and Director of Behavioral Science in the Department of Family & Community Medicine at Wake Forest School of Medicine in North Carolina. As an educator, clinician, and researcher, Dr. Koehler sees her role as identifying & addressing health disparities and inspiring other health professionals to do the same. Everyone has a story to tell – patients, family members, health professionals... all of us, in all of our myriad roles. In this writing workshop, we'll explore the concept of narrative within and outside clinical settings and build our narrative competence – "the ability to recognize, absorb, interpret, and act on the stories and plights of others" (Charon, 2001). We will read and discuss a piece of writing together, then do some writing of our own. We'll close with sharing and reflection on the experience.
